Good to know
How to recognize worn out tires and when should you change them?
The only part of the vehicle in touch with the road are the tires, and together with the shock absorbers and brakes they form the automobile's „safety triangle“.
Come to our shop if you find any signs of worn out tires:
- a deformed and work out contact patch
- insufficient tire pressure
- unusual sounds in the passenger area
- the automobile pulls to one side during driving
So as not to damage your tires and be safe on the road, we recommend:
- before every longer journey, you should check the pressure in cold tires, and you can do this once a month
- regularly test the wear of the tires and check for signs of wear in the grooves
- in case of wear replace the tires in pairs
- if necessary, balance the tires
Adjusting your headlights is important for you, and also for others
On the road, headlights make you visible, and make you notice others around you.
Entrust us with taking care of your lights and we will offer you one of two options:
Our experts will offer you the newest achievements in the field of automobile lights:
- double optics: efficient and longlasting halogen lights for dual use „crossroads/road“
- xenon: range amplified by 80m, light expansion by 90% at turns and range of long lights expanded by 40 m
- fixed front lights: expand range of visibility by 90% and lengthen the range of the main light beam for complete safety on the road
- adjustabe fron lights: range of visibility is doubled and they have an automatic system of adapting the height of the light beam.
Wheel geometry alignment makes the car safer, and the tires last longer
Good, or the manufacturer's suggested wheel geometry is important because it saves your tires and makes the care safer during driving – mostly at high speeds and braking. The reasons for deviation in the geometry are: hitting curbs, wear to the suspension, change of the vehicle's height ...Experts say that even extremely careful drivers sometimes need their geometry aligned, no matter how careful they are when climbing up curbs. Of course, there are those who wish to „open“ or „close“ their tracks, increase the slopes or do similar adjustments in the search for better road performance.
The result of the adjustment is an automobile that goes straight when you release the steering wheel, brakes evenly, does not wear out your tires, even spends less fuel. If the smallest rig, tie rod or ball has clearance, the geometry alignment will show this. For instance, is only one ball has clearance or is loose, just by touching the wheel the instruments will read out the slightest movement and you will know which part you have to change. Besides, you will be driving more calmly, you will be safer on the road and your car will react perfectly in critical situations.
Damp, salt and dirt ruin the brakes during winter
Damp, salt and dirt on the roads are the worst enemies of an automobile's undercarriage, and during winter poor maintenance results with problems at the worst possible time. Older cars are the ones especially hit, especially those equipped with drum brakes, which usually fail at the worst possible times. At the first stronger braking they make the automobile slide... Disk brakes are different, and this is why they eventually shoved drum brakes out of use, first to the back beam axle, and lately they have been entirely put out of use. The hand brake is important during summer, but poor maintenance comes to the fore in winter time.
Cracked pipes of the hand brake wires may become a weak spot, as they might lead to water coming into the pipes and pour down the drums. Besides, drums are not sealed, so going through puddles may get them into water. It is not rare that when you park your automobile at night, the brake shoes stay sticked to the drum, without your pulling the hand brake. The springs that move the shoes away are not strong enough to bring them back into the starting position, so the shoes easily get stuck to the drums. Drivers solve this with force, especially with cars that have rear-wheel drive. Everything is fine at the beginning, but after fifteen minutes or so, the shoes get detached from the pedal because of the force, and all this is accentuated by corrosion. Because of the noise of the brakes and blocking the rear wheels, you can do nothing but park on the side and wait for the tow truck...
How come new brakes can squeak, scratch, or even vibrate?
The most common source is saving at every step of the way, even when it should not be done, by the choosing of low quality parts. In order to ascertain the proper source of the problems, you should visit your dealership, and the reasons might be various:
- Unevenly spent plates
Unevenly spent disks, along with noise, may cause uneven pressure on the disk and reduce the brake efficiency. They wear more easily and should be replaced more often.
- Uneven plate surface
With scratching and vibrations, it will point to the need for faster replacement. The problem is often in the unevenly spent disk, which often also must be changed.
- A wrong way of wearing out the plates
Wrong centering is the main cause of wearing out one side of the plates, and it is manifested by the vehicle pulling to one side during braking, along with scratches and vibrations.
- Damaged back side of the brake
These problems may be caused by mistakes in production or faulty assembly. They cause scratching and vibrations, add to the wear and tear and cause insufficient braking power. The plates must be replaced.
- Faulty caliper
One of the main sources is the incomplete release of the pistons after the pedal has been released. It can cause overheating, and can be very dangerous.
Is winter driving equipment necessary?
The law says YES!
THE MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT, MARITIME AFFAIRS AND INFRASTRUCTURE instituted on November 14th 2013 a Law on the required use of winter driving equipment. The law came into force on December 6th 2013, upon its publication in Narodne novine.
Winter driving equipment is required from November 15th of the current year until April 15th of the following year.
It is required on all highways and state roads except those in Dalmatia (up to Maslenica). A complete list of road is available on the Ministry or HAK websites.
